Twitch Affiliate requirements explained (2026)

April 25, 2026Updated June 3, 20264 min readBy FollowNow Editorial

Twitch Affiliate is the first revenue tier on Twitch. It unlocks subscriptions, bits, ads, and game-revenue cuts. Here are all 4 requirements and exactly how to think about each. To see how close you already are, our Twitch Affiliate tracker turns each threshold into a simple progress bar.

Requirement 1 - 50 followers

The hardest one for new streamers. Twitch's algorithm doesn't surface streams under ~50 viewers, and viewers don't typically follow streamers under 50 followers - so you have a chicken-and-egg problem. Most new streamers stall here for weeks.

50followersMost-stalling Affiliate requirement

Requirement 2 - 500 streamed minutes (over the past 30 days)

8 hours and 20 minutes of total streaming. Easy if you stream 4×2hr sessions per week. The 30-day window matters - if you take a 2-week break, your earlier hours start dropping off.

Requirement 3 - 7 unique broadcast days (over the past 30 days)

Stream 7 different days within a rolling 30-day window. Doesn't need to be consecutive. Most streamers hit this in 2 weeks of regular streaming.

Requirement 4 - Average 3 concurrent viewers (rolling 30 days)

Often the second-hardest, after 50 followers. Twitch averages your CCV across all your streams. If you streamed 10 hours total at 1 average viewer, you need to stream more hours at higher CCV to bring the average up to 3.

Relative time-to-clear by requirement. The 50-follower line stalls roughly 80% of new streamers.

Realistic timeline - how long does Affiliate actually take?

From a true zero-following start, with consistent 3×4hr streams per week:

  • Week 1-2: Hit the 500-minute + 7-day requirements (easy with cadence)
  • Week 3-6: Slow follower growth, often stuck at 10-25 followers
  • Week 6-10: Crossing 50 followers usually requires breaking out - viral clip, friend network, or social-proof boost
  • Average overall: 2-4 months from zero to Affiliate for streamers with no prior audience
From a true zero start with three streams a week. Median to Affiliate: two to four months.

Common ways streamers speed it up

The 50-follower threshold is the bottleneck for 80% of stuck streamers. Tactics:

  • Friend-network: ask 30-50 friends to follow (instant 50-follower clear)
  • Cross-promote on TikTok/YouTube - even 1-2K TikTok views can drive 20+ follows
  • A visible base helps break the chicken-and-egg stall - some streamers buy Twitch followers to clear the 50-follower line, while the concurrent-viewer average stays something Twitch decides on its own review
  • Pair stream with concurrent-viewer service + AI ChatBots to look more active during your follower-pushing streams

What Affiliate actually unlocks

  • Subscriptions - viewers can sub for $4.99-24.99/mo, you get ~50%
  • Bits - viewers send you bits, $0.01 per bit minus Twitch's cut
  • Ad revenue - pre-roll + mid-roll ads, ~$3-10 per 1,000 views
  • Game commission - 5% on games people buy via your channel page

Realistic income at the Affiliate level: $0-150/month for the first few months. Most Affiliates aren't earning meaningfully - Affiliate is a milestone, not a salary. The next tier is Partner, where Twitch becomes financially viable for full-time creators.

Frequently asked

How long does Twitch Affiliate usually take?
Median from zero is 2-4 months with consistent 3-5 streams per week. The 50-followers requirement is the stalling point for ~80% of new streamers, most stuck creators are at 10-25 followers after a month.
Can you hit 50 followers without friends?
Yes but slower. The realistic non-friend paths are: viral clip on TikTok / YouTube Shorts (can deliver 20-50 followers in days), tournament/community participation (deliver follower spikes), or buying a small initial follower batch to clear the cold-start phase.
Does Affiliate guarantee any income?
No. Affiliate unlocks the right to earn (subs, bits, ads) but doesn't guarantee viewers. Most fresh Affiliates earn $0-50/month for the first 3-6 months, Affiliate is a milestone, not a salary.
Does Affiliate status expire if I stop streaming?
Twitch can remove Affiliate status if you go inactive for a long period (typically 90+ days with no streams). You can re-apply once you meet the Path to Affiliate requirements again.
